Chapayeka drum

beats, cocoon rattles, hide masks,

along walled cobble streets.

Cottonwood coming

green, lace froth in the spring clefts

of the desert hills.

Winter warms to spring

when the white-wing doves return,

sighing for summer.

Palo verde spring:

yellow petals dust by orange,

bloom of butterflies.

Strawberry sweet cream

stained glass petals, honey scent,

silky days of spring.
